Overview
Operational budgets touch every corner of a hotel, from housekeeping to food & beverage, and the process of building one involves a lot of people and data. As lead designer, my job was to untangle that complexity. I focused on making a dense workflow feel approachable and intuitive, no matter where someone sat in the org chart.
The Right Balance
The biggest challenge was designing for a process that's inherently complicated without making the product feel that way. That meant stripping away friction and surfacing the right information at the right time. One of the additions that recieved the most praise was how we took the previous year's actuals & budget data and incorporated it in the tables so users could use it as a guide for their budget process. This removed the need to run additional reports and have additional pages or spreadsheets open.
Conclusion
The result is a tool that respects the complexity of hotel finance while making the people navigating it feel confident doing so. We recieved a 4/5 average CSAT during beta and notable high profile clients praising the feature.
